Fox Reporter Says Under Islamic Law Two Women May Equal One Man in Iraq
Reported by Chrish - August 24, 2005
On Studio B with Shepard Smith Monday, the big discussion was the deadline of the Iraq Constitution. As time went on in the program, it seemed like nothing but bad news was coming out of Iraq. Apparently, the Shiites have been able to keep in the point of Islamic law trumping all other law - be it Democratic, Family Law, Inheritence, etc., which would mean very bad news for Iraqi women.
In fact, as host Shepard Smith kept repeating that this was not looking like a Democracy, but an Islamic Republic, reporter William La Jeunesse said it's possible that if the Islamic law trumps all other law it could mean that one man equals two women as far as civil law is concerned in Iraq.
Comment: Is this the democracy that the president has bragged about? Does democracy only count for men and not women? Fox's casual attitude in putting this information out there suggests another reason that will change for the Bush Administration. If it is not a Democracy, hey, it's what the Iraqi people wanted, so it's not our fault!
