Fox Morphs Pat Robertson Into Television Personality

Reported by Donna - August 24, 2005

Yesterday on Studio B with Shepard Smith, there were several teasers into the Pat Robertson story of him calling for the assassination of President Chavez of Venezuela. However, in each of these teasers they referred to Pat Robertson as a 'Television Personality'.

It wasn't until the actual story came on that they went ahead and used the word 'televangelist'.

Comment: Pat Robertson is first and foremost a televangelist, which Webster's translates into: an evangelist who conducts regularly televised religious programs. Fox's 'play on words' by using tv personality instead of televangelist is conducive to the Bush Administration trying to distance itself from Pat Robertson, so Fox is staying 'on message'. Pat Robertson, as reported by CNN, has always had close ties to this administration. Pat Robertson boasted that he was responsible for getting George Bush elected twice.

The larger question should be is why a man of religion, with close ties to this administration, is asking for the assassination of a head of state of a country that is a democracy?
