Fred Barnes Wraps Up The Week Of Cindy Sheehan Smears

Reported by Deborah - August 20, 2005

Fred Barnes asked, "Is Cindy Sheehan a grieving mother or tool of the left wing." This question, of course, has been asked and answered by Fox all week. O'Reilly bragged that Fox was responsible for first reporting Cindy Sheehan's far left leanings and he went after the media for showing Sheehan in a positive light. Today on Beltway Boys, Fred Barnes spewed all the negative smears once again for his viewers but at least he didn't call her a crackpot like last week.

Barnes wondered if Cindy Sheehans radical comments would come back to haunt her. Then he read the quotes that have been spread all week and of course brought up her initial visit with Bush claiming that Sheehan had positive things to say about the meeting. This claim that everyone on Fox, especially Bill O'Reilly, has been harping about is not true. Media Matters has investigated this smear which started on Drudge.

Barnes added that if her son could speak now he would say that he embarrassed by his mother's actions.

Juan Williams told Barnes that Sheehans son had his stay in Iraq extended and was getting disenchanted with the war, Williams called Sheehan the face of the anti war movement claiming that she reflects the feelings of the majority and he scoldedBarnes for reading off the quotes that were meaningless to the situation.

Barnes ended the topic with some poll numbers but didn't mention which poll. He claimed that 38% disagree with Sheehan and 32% agree.
It might have been the Rasmussen Poll that showed that 38% disapprove and 35% approve.

comment: Cindy Sheehan is not going away and the right will continue plotting and smearing. Let them knock themselves out because this time Cindy Sheehan and the spirit she has unleashed is simply not going away.
