Fox is Losing it Over Bush
Reported by Melanie - August 15, 2005
As Your World substitute host Brenda Buttner signed off before an ad break today (August 15, 2005), she said, "Well, Paris Hilton, Kathie Lee Gifford, Christie Brinkley and President Bush. The connection next."
Now, I know Fox can't say enough about Bush ("our Commander in Chief," as they frequently say, with moist eyes and great reverence), and I know they mention him wherever and whenever they can, but, well, I waited with bated breath to see what the connection was.
After the break, Buttner introduced the "Biz Blast" portion of the show. "Biz Blast" is a roughly 60-second segment during which the anchor reports "business" news on four or five companies. (One of Cavuto's favorite topics is sex and he often uses this segment to throw some in, as was done today.) Here's how it went:
Buttner reported that "President Bush has no plans to intervene" in a Northwest Airlines labor dispute. She said a magazine is reporting that Gifford "inked a one year deal" to cover Broadway for The Insider television show. She said Brinkley is returning as "the face of Cover Girl," and will be "pitching a new line of makeup for women over age 30," and that, "a new poll by EPolls" shows that Paris Hilton is "overexposed by the media." Buttner said it's "not just those steamy Carl's Jr. ads" (several seconds of which Fox aired), apparently Hilton's fans are angry that she "traded in" her dog Tinkerbell "after it got too big."
Comment: Okay, so where's the connection? Fox is trying so hard to promote Bush that it's, well, going bushwhacky bonkers.
