O'Reilly to News Hounds Dog House
Reported by Judy - August 11, 2005
Bill O'Reilly on Tuesday night (August 9, 2005) committed the journalistic and moral equivalent of pooping in the house. For his dishonest and despicable treatment of Cindy Sheehan, O'Reilly is being sent to the News Hounds Dog House for a good, long stay.
Sheehan has been camping outside George Bush's Crawford, Texas, ranch demanding to meet with Bush to discuss the Iraq war, in which her son Casey was killed in April 2004.
On Tuesday's "O'Reilly Factor," O'Reilly repeated the right-wing smear (started by the Drudge Report) that Sheehan has changed her opinion on the war since her family and other grieving military families met with Bush a year ago. O'Reilly and far-right pundit Michelle Malkin both accused her of flip-flopping on the war and of being a tool of liberal groups such as Code Pink and Michael Moore. Their aim was to discredit Sheehan's protest and to undermine mainstream Americans' support for her by associating her with people O'Reilly and Malkin think most Americans dislike.
Cindy Sheehan is no fool and nobody's tool. As the newspaper which interviewed her a year ago has made clear, Sheehan was unhappy with Bush when she met with him a year ago but refrained from criticizing him. So O'Reilly's campaign to marginalize this grieving mother is based on a lie.
For his dishonest journalism and his willingness to attack a broken-hearted mother who dares to stand up alone and demand an end to senseless death, O'Reilly is going to the Dog House, where there are no phones, no showers, no loofas, and no falafels. I thought about sending Malkin there, too, but no telling what ... . Oh, I can't go on.
