Callous Coulter Says Stop Carping About Iraq

Reported by Deborah - August 4, 2005

Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly got together for a debate tonight but anyone expecting a dynamic exchange was dissappointed. O'Reilly brought up Coulter's last appearance a year ago where she praised the progress in Iraq asking her if she had changed her mind in light of the insurgency that is out of control. She made it clear that the loss of our troops was secondary to "winning". 8/4/05

Coulter claimed that Iraq was a real success story reciting a list of all the grand accomplishments like the election, Iraqi Constitution and our killing of 50,000 insurgents. She did not mention the 1800 soldiers killed or the many thousands wounded and referred to any discussion about the war getting out of hand as " background noise."

Coulter unmoved by O'Reilly's suggestion that we need more troops to get the insurgency under control, said that carping about Iraq would lead to the same defeat we had in Vietnam. "What's the point?" she asked. She blamed broadcasters like Cronkite and Democrats in congress for our defeat in Vietnam because they said we were losing.
"War is hell", Coulter proclaimed as if that cliche was a sufficient explanation for the continuing death and suffering resulting from this endless war.

Then the subject was changed to securing our borders and O'Reilly and Coulter agreed that not enough is being done.

comment:Ann Coulter sitting comfortably in the air conditioned studio
will enjoy a pleasant and safe evening after the taping is done. She won't be standing in the dark in the Iraqi desert waiting at a checkpoint for a car to possibly blow up in her face like our troops or enduring unimaginable pain and homesickness in a hospital in Germany. Unlike the soldiers in Iraq, Coulter's mind isn't filled with horrible images of death and violence that may never go away.

This war is an abstract political issue for Ann Coulter who can easily go on television and tell everyone to stop carping about Iraq. The people fighting, bleeding, screaming in fear and pain don't exist for her because war is hell for other people and she really doesn't want to know about it. Let's all stop carping about Iraq.
