Is Fox's Neil Cavuto a Terrorist?
Reported by Melanie - August 3, 2005
Neil Cavuto (don't forget, he's supposedly the Fox News "business" guy), opened his show today (August 3, 2005) with three segments on "war games" Russia and China will conduct in mid-August. Cavuto said, "They say it's sort of like a terror-just-in-case game, but exactly who is kidding whom, especially when 100,000 soldiers could be involved"?
Fox reporter Dana Lewis reported from Moscow and then Cavuto introduced Casper Weinberger (who was followed by Oliver North) with, "Should we be afraid?" A minute or two into the Weinberger segment Cavuto said, "But, do you know what worries me Mr. Secretary? This involves 100,000 men." Weinberger said, "I would say it's closer to 10,000," to which Cavuto replied, "Well, they claim 100,000."
UPDATE: August 4, 2005: Cavuto repeated the 100,000 number again today.
Comment: No "they" don't. The ChinaDaily.com says 10,000. Xinhuanet.com says 10,000. The Russian News & Information Agency says 10,000. I Googled this story and skimmed approximately 18 articles. All but one reported that 10,000 troops would participate. The exception, at expressindia.com, did say 100,000 troops but, quite frankly, I suspect it's a typo.
Cavuto, the news guy, the guy whose job it is to know and report the FACTS, should let up on spreading fear. After all, he wouldn't want to be thought of as a terrorist, now, would he?
