FNL wants to know: "How much privacy would you be willing to give up for some security?"

Reported by Nancy - July 27, 2005 -

Yesterday (7/27) on FNL, in addition to the usual mix of sleaze ("... some violent video coming up next!") & tease (Jane Fonda is "back on the anti-war trail"), the over-riding theme was how government & corporations could make you more secure if you'd just give up your silly notions of things like civil liberties. Rick Folbaum was in for David Asman, & as usual did a much better job than Asman does (which admittedly isn't saying much).

Here's a run-down of the last hour. Note the repetion of high-tech approaches touted as "solutions".
12:00pm - end of coverage of Discovery launch
12:03pm - David Lee Miller in London reported on the bombings investigations
12:05pm - Jennifer Griffin in Jerusalem reported on the Sharm el Sheikh bombing
12:07pm - weather (wind in NE, water main burst in Cinci) - Buzz Lopez weather report
12:09pm - teasers: "Brits looking for hi-tech help" for security; Amber Alert; CA "cops in hot pursuit .. wild chase"
12:12pm - Folbaum interviewed Sen Chuck Grassley (R-IA) about Roberts's SCOTUS nomination
12:17pm - teasers: "how much privacy would you be willing to give up for some secutiry?"; bomb-sniffing dogs out, hi tech in
12:21pm - ALERT - copter crash outside Chiciago
12:21pm - Folbaum interviewed Simon Stringer (managing director of scanner company Qinetiq) about tech "solutions against bombs by extremists"
12:25pm - teasers: changing face of security; international search for 8yo; "Donald Trump to the rescue"; TX "shootout caught on tape ... some violent video coming up next!"
12:30pm - Uma Pemmaraju read headlines: London security; NYC secutiry; Discoverty launched successfully; TV Guide changes
12:31pm - Anita Vogel in Los Angeles reported that Sigma System (detector that measures gamma rays to detect explosives) is the "wave of the future"
12:34pm - Folbaum reported on missing 8yo Lydia Rupp
12:34pm - Moll Henenberg reported on 4 Scoutmasters electrocuted at Boy Scout jamboree in VA
12:37pm - Eric Shawn reported that Donald Trump claims he can renovate UN HQ cheaply
12:40pm - teasers: London terror investigations; Jane Fonda is "back on the anti-war trail" - "how do ya feel about that?"
12:43pm - Folbaum interviewed Paul McGuire & Nancy Skinner (radio talk show hosts) about Jane Fonda
12:48pm - teasers - London investigation
12:52pm - Folbaum interviewed Pat Brown (criminal profiler) & Robert Sigler (professor in Alabama) about a law proposed in Alabama that would require surgical castration for sex offenders
12:56pm - teasers for later FNC programs

Comment: Concerns for civil liberties aside (& believe me, they were definitely MIA during this hour), wouldn't you just love to know how much stock Rupert Murdoch or Roger Ailes owns in companies like Qinetiq or Sigma System? And of course the best "solution" in the world won't really solve anything if you've mis-identified the underlying problem.

NOTE TO READERS: Please stay on topic (any of the above topics, or how government & corporations could make you more secure if you'd just give up your silly notions of things like civil liberties). O/T comments will be deleted. Thanks.
