John Gibson Making Room for 'Your Word' But Not a Word on Rove
Reported by Judy - July 20, 2005
John Gibson's email inbox must be filling up regularly, after last week's stupid comment in his "My Word" segment about giving Karl Rove a medal. The anchor of Fox New's "Big Story" on Wednesday (July 20, 2005) read from his mailbag in a segment he called "Your Word."
The letters were about the White House leak of the identity of a CIA operative, Valerie Plame, after her husband, Joe Wilson, went public with his doubts about efforts by Saddam Hussein to buy yellowcake uranium in Niger for nuclear bomb making. The yellowcake story was one of the justifications George Bush gave for invading Iraq. Bush Deputy Karl Rove has been implicated in the scandal, which is under investigation by a federal prosecutor.
Two of the three letters Gibson read ripped into him. One writer called Gibson "a right-wing idiot."
Gibson managed to go through the letters without ever mentioning Karl Rove's name. He gave only the briefest background for the controversy and managed to keep the focus on Wilson's credibility, just as those GOP talking points say he should.
I'd say Wilson's credibility must be better than Rove's at this point. Wilson isn't worried about being indicted by a grand jury.
