On Fox, Bush Is Creating Jobs Out the Wazoo
Reported by Melanie - July 8, 2005
In typical Fox fashion, Neil Cavuto reported the June job creation and unemployment numbers today (July 8, 2005) in a way that made them appear far better than they are.
In the opening moments of the show, as he outlined the major topics of the day, Cavuto said: "And, some good news. 146,000 more Americans on the work force. Unemployment dropped to a 4 1/2 year low of 5%."
As Cavuto spoke, Fox showed a full-screen graphic titled, "Jobs Created" with the number "l46,000" centered below in very large print. A few seconds later, a second screen appeared with the heading "Unemployment Rate," and "5.1% May" written on the left hand side of the screen and a red arrow pointing toward the right where "5.0% June" was written.
Sixteen minutes into the show, in a banner at the bottom of the screen, Fox "reported" (in the most obscure way possible) that the 146,000 fell short of the 188,500 expected.
Comment: According to Reuters (U.S. Job Growth Tepid, Jobless Rate Drops), the job increases don't even keep-up with population growth, and "the unexpected decrease in the jobless rate was mostly due to a paltry 1,000 increase in the labor force -- suggesting many Americans have stopped looking for work."
The next time you talk to someone who thinks Bush is creating a whole lotta jobs, ask them if they watch Fox.
