Sex & Porn, the Fox News Way

Reported by Melanie - June 28, 2005

Your World w/Neil Cavuto is Fox News' weekday "business" news program. It airs at 4:00 p.m. ET and Fox touts it as "the most watched business news show on the planet." Somewhere along the line in my monitoring of the show, I noticed that Neil Cavuto added a fair amount of sex to the mix. As a matter of fact, he aired more sexy stories and video clips than I saw on any other daytime cable news show.

Given that Fox portrays itself as the channel of God, country and apple pie, and is fond of condemning "Hollywood" for its hedonism, I found Cavuto's obsession a bit off message, to say the least.

I decided to keep track of all the times Cavuto worked sex into his "business" show. I began in January, missed March and April but picked up again in May. Here are all the instances I recorded.

January 11, 2005

4:33 p.m. ET Cavuto airs pictures of Victoria's Secret models in tiny swimsuits (like these). Cavuto reports that the "2005 Swim Book" (a swimsuit catalogue) will be out in the spring.

4:45 p.m. ET Just before a break Cavuto teases with: "You think only babes can sell Snapple?" Video of boobs with people attached. Upcoming guest is Wendy Kaufman, "the Snapple lady."

January 19, 2005

4:43 p.m. ET While video of Victoria's Secret models parading down a runway in underwear, boobs bouncing aired, Cavuto said: "Limited Brands shaking things up. The parent of Victoria's Secret splitting into three business groups. One will focus on lingerie, another on apparel and a third on beauty and personal care." (His emphasis.)

February 4, 2005

In "Fox Stox" portion of show Cavuto airs part of Super Bowl ad featuring a buxom woman advertising GoDaddy.com.

Interview with two women (here's a picture) who will partake in the "Lingerie Bowl," which will run concurrent to the Super Bowl.

February 8, 2005

In the "Biz Blast" portion of the show Cavuto talks about Britney Spears suing seven insurance companies because she owes $10 million after being forced to cancel a concert because of a knee injury. Video of Spears airs in the background (containing images like this) as Cavuto speaks.

In the "Biz Blast" portion of the show Cavuto reports on a new Virginia state bill imposing a $50.00 fine on anyone who wears low-cut jeans which exposes their underwear. While it seems to me that males do that more than females, the video that aired over Cavuto's report showed only young females and very tight shots of bare midriffs and backs.

February 10, 2005

In the "Biz Blast" portion of the show video of young women wearing very low-cut jeans was shown as Cavuto talked about the underwear maker, Freshpair, offering free underwear to kids in Virginia who might be ticketed for letting their underwear show (see February 8, 2005).

February 11, 2005

Biz Blast. Short "blurb" about a new clothing line put out by Jennifer Lopez. Sexy video of Lopez aired as did video of what looked like Victoria's Secret models in panties and bras.

February 14, 2005

As Cavuto reported during Biz Blast that a $12 million Victoria's Secret bra is still on the market, video of Victoria's Secret models in panties and bras like these, was shown.

February 16, 2005

Fox Stox. Cavuto reported on the stock of "Hot Buns" bread. During the report he said, "No, we're not talking about Victoria's Secret," and proceeded to show video of Victoria's Secret models in underwear.

May 5, 2006

As he broke for an ad, Cavuto showed pictures of Victoria's Secret models strutting down a runway as a teaser to an upcoming story.

At 4:49 in the "Fox Stox" segment, Cavuto showed sexy pictures of Pamela Anderson in a segment about KFC. Cavuto said facts are "stacked" against her.

4:49 p.m. ET, also in the "Fox Stox" segment, Cavuto ran the Victoria's Secret story promoed earlier, again showing provocative models strutting down a runway. Cavuto said profits of VS's parent company, The Limited, fell by 3% in the last quarter.

4:49 p.m. ET: Cavuto reported that Playboy's profits rose by 3% while showing very provocative pictures of models being photographed in tiny bikinis. Later in the show Cavuto interviewed the CEO of Playboy, Christie Hefner, under the banner "Baring it All."

May 6, 2005

In the Biz Blast portion of the show Cavuto talked about Paris Hilton acting in a new movie. Provocative pictures of Hilton were shown

May 16, 2005

In "Fox Stox" portion Cavuto reports on the earnings of The Limited, parent company of Victoria's Secret as usual video of models in underwear is shown.

May 16, 2005

In "Biz Blast" portion, short clip about Las Vegas' mayor moonlighting as a Playboy photographer. Pix of posing Playboy models shown.

May 25, 2005

Cavuto interviews an executive with Carl's Jr., about their new advertisement featuring Paris Hilton. The executive's face is only shown once, meanwhile, the Hilton ad runs over and over again as Cavuto interviews him.

May 26, 2005

4:00 p.m. ET - Cavuto opens show with a promo about an upcoming segment about Hooters Air. Video of "Hooters girls" is shown, featuring shots like this, and this. Cavuto says Hooters' owners are "milking the concept big time," and that Fox is "abreast" of it.

4:10 p.m. ET - Jamie Colby comes on as more video of Hooters girls is shown and she says she's "bursting" to give her report.

4:29 p.m. ET Heading to a break, Cavuto promos the upcoming Hooters segment again, saying Hooters is "shaking up the industry."

4:33 p.m. ET Jamie Colby gives her report, showing more video featuring shots like those linked to above, saying Hooters is making a profit despite all that was "stacked" against it.

4:53 p.m. ET Cavuto reads eight emails at the end of his show, all about the Paris Hilton/Carl's Jr., advertisement he ran the day before. As Cavuto reads the emails a picture, like this, airs on screen with the words "Burger Babe" written underneath.

May 27, 2005

In a "Fox Stox" story about a woman who is suing Yahoo over pictures posted on Yahoo's site, Cavuto thought it appropriate to air video of Paris Hilton.

4:53 p.m. ET Cavuto reads two emails about his May 25, 2005 Carl's Jr. Paris Hilton story while he again shows the same picture he showed on Wednesday and Thursday (see above).

June 6, 2005

Cavuto interviews Miss Universe.

June 8, 2005

Cavuto again interviews the CEO of Carl's Jr. restaurants, and they have a conversation that is almost exactly the same as the one they had on May 25 (see above). Again Cavuto shows pictures of Paris Hilton and runs clips from Hilton's ad for Carl's Jr.

June 15, 2005

In the "Biz Blast" portion of his show, Cavuto reports that three students from an Illinois university are suing Hooters Air for stealing a business plan they claim to have developed. Video with pictures like this and this is shown and Cavuto concludes with: "Maybe they could have just been distracted."

June 16, 2005

4:45 p.m. ET, Cavuto promoed an upcoming segment with video of the Paris Hilton Carl's Jr. ad.

4:49 p.m. ET, during the "Biz Blast" segment, more Paris Hilton Carl's Jr. ad over a report that the ad will begin running in the "heartland."

4:50 p.m. ET Cavuto began a segment with Melissa Caldwell, of the Parents Television Council. The PTC has blasted Carl's Jr., for the Hilton ad. At the beginning of the interview, to my amazement, Fox went to a split screen and showed the ad alongside the PTC representative for approximately a third of the segment.

4:57 p.m. ET During Cavuto's "Common Sense" editorial titled "Fine Dining," Cavuto mentioned Victoria's Secret models and video of Victoria's Secret models in underwear parading down a runway appeared for a few seconds.

June 17, 2005

At 4:44 p.m. ET at the end of the "Fox Stox" segment, a picture (a lot like this one) of strippers hanging on poles appeared over Cavuto's shoulder as he opened a segment about strip clubs in Las Vegas paying cabbies to drop patrons off at their door steps. One or two minutes into the interview with the Governor of Nevada, Fox cut to video of strippers rubbing themselves on poles.

June 21, 2005

During the "Biz Blast" portion of the show Cavuto talked about some advice Paris Hilton gave her mother about her mother's new reality show. Video of Paris Hilton with her parents shown (good way to tickle memories of that Carl's Jr. video!)

4:25 p.m. ET Video of Victoria's Secret models shown as Cavuto heads to ad break. One model had on nothing more than a ribbon "thong." At one point during the show, this shot was shown in video form.

4:32 p.m. ET Fox Stox portion of the Show. Cavuto said The Limited, owner of Victoria's Secret, hoped that the Victoria's Secret's semi-annual sale would "lift its bottom line," and that Victoria's Secret is also "sagging a bit." But, Cavuto said, the stock is trying to "bounce back."

4:35 p.m. ET Chyron at the bottom of the screen says: "Pamela Anderson Takes on Virgin Swashbuckler!!!"

4:46 p.m. ET Promo as Cavuto heads to ad break. Video of Anderson is a very revealing dress is show as Cavuto says: "Why is Pamela Anderson, well, wing-walking with billionaire Sir Richard Branson"?

4:50 p.m. ET During the "Biz Blast" portion of the show video of Anderson and Branson walking on a wing of a Virgin airlines airplane and talking to the press on the tarmac is shown. At the end Cavuto said things got a little out of hand when Branson tried to carry Anderson up onto the wing, that it must have been "all that extra baggage."

Comment: God, country, apple pie and SEX! Neil Cavuto's Your World is the place to go if you're looking for daytime sex on one of the 24-hour cable news networks.

UPDATE: June 28: Cavuto got another clip of the Paris Hilton Carl's Jr., video in today too! He loves it.
