Rosie O'Donnell Speaks Openly
Reported by Deborah - June 20, 2005
It was a rare but refreshing experience last night to see a video clip of Rosie O'Donnell speaking her mind in a pre recorded interview with Geraldo who was absent last night. However,it's probably no coincidence that this clip was chosen after Fox surprisingly covered the huge gay rights demonstration in Spain, which Melanie posted about on 6/18.
Rosie told Geraldo that she and her partner Kelly, went to San Francisco to marry as both an "act of love and civil disobedience" adding that George Bush "nationally shamed millions of Americans."She claimed that she and Kelly decided that someone famous should make a statement. O'Donnell reminded viewers that all civil rights battles are long struggles. "We wll be equal one day."
Geraldo said he admired her candor and wondered why she would risk alienating half of the country. O'Donnell said that she remembered Jane Fonda speaking out when she was 9 years old. "War is wrong."
Then she added that "basically Bush is a war criminal. As a Democrat and Mother who cares, I feel I have a responsibility to speak out"
Comment: Having spent so much time monitoring Fox, I can't help wondering why this was aired without someone there to rip her up with the last word? Did someone at Fox let it slip through late on a Sunday night? If it was deliberate, what was the intention?
