Runaway Bride Cashes In With News Corp

Reported by Deborah - June 19, 2005

The Runaway Bride, Jennifer Wilbanks, just made a $500,000 deal with Regan Media, a subsidiary of News Corp, for the rights to her life story. John Kasich discussed this surprising development on Heartland last night disclosing the connection between Regan Media and News Corp.to viewers. Steve Malzberg and Martha Zoller joined Kasich for the discussion and nobody had a positive word to say about the situation.

Since Wilbanks already made an agreement with the City of Duluth to pay a certain amount before she signed this deal, she is not liable for anything more. Malzberg talked about the need for a Son of Sam Law that would prohibit anyone from profiting from a crime. Zoller mentioned that Wilbanks phoney disappearance prevented the Duluth Policeman from attending the funeral of one of their own. It seems the people of Duluth are not too happy with Wilbanks these days.

comment: It's interesting to note that nobody mentioned that the 24/7 coverage of this fiasco by FNC made Wilbanks' story a valuable commodity to the money hungry media whores who can convince themselves that this is an appealing human interest story. Wilbanks may believe that this will be a chance to tell her story so that people will finally understand or she may just want the fame and money. Either way it really stinks for the people in Duluth who are looking like major suckers right about now.
