Gimme Some Old Fashioned Reality, Please

Dennis Kucinich was a guest today (June 15, 2005) on Your World w/Neil Cavuto. Kucinich talked about a bipartisan coalition of members of the House who will make an announcement tomorrow about legislation they've drafted calling on the president to set plans for beginning a phase-out of US troops in Iraq. (And last night Bush accused Democratic leaders of trying to "delay solutions" and "obstruct progress.")
During the interview, Cavuto asked this question:
"Congressman, I think you're a decent, patriotic American but you're also a good student of history. Do you think that a couple of years into World War II, not too far ahead of the Bataan Death March, that when we were sick of it then, and we pulled out then we might never have successfully have stopped Adolph Hitler?"
After Kucinich pointed out that Vietnam is a more accurate comparison than World War II, Cavuto asked essentially the same question a second time, but with this ending: "Adolph Hitler would have been doin' a jig, right?"
Comment: The radical right is so afraid of the parallels between Iraq and Vietnam that they make fools of themselves avoiding them. In the process, they do the American public a tremendous disservice; World War II was a very, very, VERY different situation. In fact, the comparison is so ridiculous it isn't even "reality based."
