Tom Cruise and Katie Homes - Hard-hitting News

Reported by Nancy - June 11, 2005 -

Yesterday (6/10) on Dayside with Linda Vester guest hosts Mike Jerrick and Juliet Huddy continued with the same fluff pieces they have been reporting for the last week.

One topic they covered was the relationship between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. As the segment began, Jerrick (oddly enough) questioned the validity of discussing the topic and asked rhetorically "Who cares?" Huddy, looking flustered turned to the audience and said "Come on, you guys were saying, you know, before we got into the show, it is funny to talk about."

Comments: While the topic may be humorous to discuss amongst friends or coworkers, Jerrick finally nailed one on the head by realizing that this is not important enough to talk about on a news show. Huddy's statement, that it's funny to discuss the topic, shows where Fox News stands on its journalistic integrity. While something may be funny to talk about, it is by no means news that should be a daily conversation on what is purported to be a hard-hitting news channel. By Huddy's own argument, we can deduce that Fox News discusses what is "fun" to talk about, and when one discusses such topics, a diversion is created to the important, world-changing events that are constantly occurring.
