FOX News Apologizes for Napolitano's "Rape" Remark
Reported by Ellen - June 9, 2005
According to BrandRepublic.com, FOX News has apologized for a less than judicious comment made by Judge Andrew Napolitano on Big Story a few weeks ago. Reportedly, Napolitano said during a debate with former Senator Carol Moseley Braun on April 26 about the nomination of John Bolton as U.N. Ambassador that the U.N., "sends peacekeepers to the Congo to rape young children."
According to the article, Napolitano apologized to viewers two days later, saying that he meant to say that there have been reports that some of the UN peacekeepers sent to the Congo had raped children.
However, a British viewer complained to British media regulator about the comment. BrandRepublic.com says, "Ofcom said that it was a serious allegation, but found that it was unfortunate and expressed in a clumsy manner. 'We welcome the apology and clarification by Fox News, and regard the matter as resolved,' Ofcom said."
If only viewers would complain here...
