Kim Jung Il on Cheney - " Most Cruel Monster and Bloodthirsty Beast"

Reported by Donna - June 2, 2005

Slow, slow day on Studio B with Shepard Smith today. Major time was spent on the Michael Jackson trial (where, just to update you, the prosecutor made a great closing speech, according to Fox) and we heard continuously about the mudslides in Laguna Beach, California.

There was the obligatory mention of George Bush talking about his social security private accounts (blah, blah, blah).

But perhaps the best story was how Fox took, ever so lightly, the most recent comments from Kim Jung Il about the Vice President.

Smith said that Kim Jung Il of North Korea had called President Bush a half baked man about a month ago (he also called Bush a 'moron' several months ago) and now he was starting on the Vice President, Dick Cheney.

Smith commented that Jung Il had said that Cheney was hated as the "most cruel monster and bloodthirsty beast." Smith laughed and said that these remarks came after Cheney had called Jung Il an irresponsible leader, who was running a police state.

North Korea said these remarks, made by Cheney, were keeping North Korea away from the six party talks.

Comment: Fox can 'make light' of these remarks from Kim Jung Il, but remember, he was also in power when Clinton was president and these name calling exchanges didn't go on then. They should also keep in mind that we should be very serious when it comes to North Korea. Since Bush has been in office they have developed an estimated 6 - 8 nuclear weapons. The Bush administration is not doing a very good job of taking care diplomatically of a very scary nuclear threat.
