Who Knows What the French Will Do
Reported by Donna - May 31, 2005
It was a slow day for news on Studio B yesterday, on Memorial Day. A lot of the show was spent speaking about the Michael Jackson trial and their was a photo op of President Bush laying a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier.
There was one report from Greg Palkot that he seemed to take pleasure from. It was the report on the French people's response to the European Union's constitution.
Palkot started out by saying that "After slipping on a political banana peel" (reference to an earlier story about Cheetah from Tarzan), President Chirac is scrambling to put his government back together.
Unofficialy, the Prime Minister was resigning, officially, Chirac's resignation has been ruled out. 55 percent of the French went against the document.
As he was speaking about who might be the next French Prime Minister, Palkot ended the segment with this statement, "But, this is France so anything can happen."
Comment: Even though it may be a slight diss, Fox manages to get it's digs into France and Jaques Chirac. And, what exactly, did he mean by this?
