Fox's Carl Cameron - ..the same old drill and shill.
Reported by Chrish - May 31, 2005
Campaign Carl made his daily appearance on Big Story with John Gibson today 5/31/05, speaking from the White House lawn. The scenery has changed but the talking points have not.
First there was Bush's reaction to Amnesty International's report, which decries the prisons at Guantanamo and the mistreatment of "detainees" as the gulag of our time. Of course this brought much indignation and cries of "outrageous" and "absurd", because the Bush White House deplores hyperbole. (two words: mushroom cloud.)
When asked about VP Cheney's comments about the report and the apparent "team effort", Carl began the litany of talking points.
Bush administration is trying very hard to ramp up diplomacy in the second term, trying to repair what some say is damage done during the first term's by the Iraq war; this is the term of diplomacy and it's time to work at reaching out to allies around the world; VP will address Air Force graduation and again talk about the war on terror, diplomacy and the march of liberty, the spread of liberty and freedom around the world, is in process but it's a slow process; president trying to steer away from the blame-America-first media attitude sometimes fomented by liberal organizations like Amnesty International (which, he says, at times has been an American ally but has during the Bush administration has been a real critic. Could we maybe examine that, see what changed?)
Gibson then gives Carl his straight line for the next bit, asking "Carl, before you go, he won't shut up about Social Security, will he?"
Carl, grinning, gave the stock spiel: Social Security reform should be part of longer-term economic plan, including energy plan (brace yourselves, America), CAFTA, making the first-term tax breaks (indefinite tax deferments) "permanent; and SS reform is part of that broader agenda. Democrats say the SS reforms is dead, the president says it's not and he's gonna keep workin' it, and workin' it, and workin' it, and keep on workin' it.
Gibson comments, "The Energizer bunny...." and ends the segment.
Comment: So much nothing! The old familiars, outraged denial, march of freedom, blame-America-first media, liberal organization, Bush administration critic, tax breaks permanent, Social Security "reform", and of course, workin...workin hard.
And we're supposedly informed by this drivel, right?
