No! The "Flyboy's Story" is Baaack

Reported by Melanie - May 30, 2005

Last summer, we News Hounds were appalled at the number of times CNN aired a "CNN Presents" titled: A Flyboy's Story: George Bush in World War II. (Note the title doesn't say George H.W. Bush in World War II.) CNN's, A Flyboy's Story, is the story of George H. W. Bush's World War II military experience. It glorifies what he did and it glorifies him. We thought it was significant that CNN ran the story over and over again during the height of the presidential campaign and that it didn't air a similar, hour-long CNN Presents casting a Democrat in such a glorious and patriotic light. It appeared to us that CNN was hoping that some of the militaristic and patriotic aura it cast George H.W. Bush in would wash over the candidate-son, George W. Bush.

Last night (May 29, 2005), Sunday on this Memorial Day weekend, CNN Presents dusted off that well-worn Flyboy's Story and aired it again, at 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. ET.

It will be interesting to see if CNN airs A Flyboy's Story over and over and over again between now and, say, July 4, just like it did last year. George W. Bush might not be running for president this year but he's running nonetheless and he can use all the help he can get. Will CNN give him some? We'll see.
