It's Not Just The "Opinion Shows." The News On FOX Is Biased, Too.

Reported by Ellen - May 26, 2005

Last night, during an unscreened portion on Alan Colmes' FOX News radio show, yet another caller challenged FOX on its so-called fair and balanced mantra. I have to say this seems to be becoming a trend and it's one I heartily approve of.

Colmes argued that while the prime time shows such as O'Reilly and Hannity & Colmes are opinion shows, the news programs such as FOX Report with Shepard Smith are straight news. As proof, Colmes said he has no idea what Smith's politics are. As the person who monitored FOX Report nearly every day for three months for Outfoxed, I can state categorically that while I, too, don't know where Smith falls on the political spectrum, many of the news reports are biased and I still have most of my notes to prove it. The fact is that Smith introduces the news reports but actual reporting falls to others. I don't believe there was a single show I watched during my work for the movie that didn't have at least one biased report.

More recently, and almost from the beginning of the blog, I have been monitoring FOXNews.com where there is hardly a news article prepared by FOX (as opposed to AP, the wire service) which ISN'T biased toward the GOP in some way.

Here are some examples:

On FOX News, Social Security Is For Slacker Seniors, posted 4/29/05

Major Garrett Distorts History Of The Filibuster and Bob Dole's Opinion, posted 4/28/05

FOX News Belittles Concerns About Bolton, posted 4/27/05

FOX Does Its Best To Convey That Bush Is Not A Hypocrite About Schiavo, posted 3/25/05

I challenge anyone to watch three reports by Major Garrett and tell me why he's not biased.
