FOX Radio Audience Says No To Expanded Patriot Act
Reported by Ellen - May 24, 2005
Last night on his FOX News radio show, Alan Colmes did "Lightning Rounds" in which questions are posed to the audience to call in with brief opinions. Lightning Round #6 was about the USA Patriot Act. The Senate Intelligence Committee is working on a bill to renew and expand the Patriot Act. Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-Kan) wants to extend the Patriot Act and give the FBI new power to subpoena records without review by a judge or grand jury. Colmes asked, "Do we need to expand government powers to stay safe?" The large majority of callers said "NO!"
The tally was six to one against expanding the Patriot Act. The six were quite emphatic in their disapproval. Considering the generally conservative bent of the audience, that's a pretty impressive vote of no confidence.
Let's hope Washington will listen.
