5/23/05 Big Story GOP Propaganda Item #2: We're Making Big Progress In Iraq

The second segment in yesterday's Big Story posed the Big Question about our "massive" offensive in Iraq. "Are coalition troops putting the squeeze on terrorists?" Notice the use of the term "terrorists" where other news organizations would say "insurgents." Guest Brigadier General Nick Halley, U.S. Army (ret), said (surprise, surprise!) that we "absolutely" are putting the squeeze on them. The screen told us the "Big Story." "Operation Squeeze play nets 285 terror suspects." But while General Halley extolled our progress, the "Big Facts" on the screen told a different story.
Big Fact 1: "Two car bombs exploded outside Mosul today"
2: "Two car bombs exploded near home of a community leader"
3. "Car bomb exploded at popular Baghdad restaurant today"
4. "Car bomb blew up outside a Shiite Mosque Today."
5. "Five U.S. troops were killed by roadside bombs."
None of those incidents entered into the discussion.
