Fox News Blames Democrats for the Crash Reps Suffered in Polls after Schiavo
Reported by Melanie - May 12, 2005
Dennis Hastert (R-IL) was a guest today (May 12, 2005) for a long segment on Your World w/Neil Cavuto. Hastert and Cavuto discussed several issues including the Bolton nomination, United Airlines and pensions, and "fixing" Social Security. At the end of the discussion, Cavuto asked Hastert one last question in which he blamed Democrats for the hit Republicans took in the polls after the Schiavo fiasco.
Here's what Cavuto said:
"Let me ask you, some polls that have been done over the last few weeks, sir, seem to say that the Republicans might have gotten snookered by the Democrats, not only in this fixation on Bolton but on going back to the Terry Schiavo situation. Maybe with the best of intentions, sir, do you feel that your party's fixation on that was at the detriment of issues that Americans cared about, like Social Security, tax reform, that sort of stuff?" (Emphasis added.)
Comment: What? How in the world did Democrats "snooker" Republicans with regard to Schiavo? (This, apparently, is another example of Reps creating their own reality.)
(Note: I intentionally used the abbreviation, "Reps" for Republicans because the "Reps" (and Fox News and CNN) are now referring to Democrats as "Dems" and if Democrats are "Dems," then I think Republicans should be "Reps." It's only fair.)
