On FOX News, Social Security Is For Slacker Seniors
Reported by Ellen - April 29, 2005
FOXNews.com reports that President Bush was "back on the stump" today in his "campaign to reform the nation's retirement system" (which some say is a campaign to wreck the nation's retirement system). As always, FOX News was there to cheer Bush on and bash Democrats. But this time, the "real journalism, fair and balanced" network added a swipe at seniors who like Social Security the way it is.
Likening Social Security recipients to welfare queens, reporter Jane Roh wrote on FOXNews.com, "Bush's proposals are confronting stiff opposition from Democrats who fear his true agenda is to wean workers off government assistance in retirement, which they say could leave many at risk of falling into poverty."
Excuse me? Since when is Social Security "government assistance?" And don't you just love the use of the word "wean," implying that seniors need to grow up and learn to be more independent?
