Michael Jackson Covered Completely on Studio B

Reported by Donna - April 21, 2005

I thought I might be doing our readers some disservice by not reporting on 'how' Studio B is covering the Michael Jackson trial. I don't want our readers to get the impression that they are 'not' covering it. Boy, are they. In a past post, I described how excited Shepard Smith was about the Michael Jackson story. He couldn't understand how the other news outlets said they weren't going to go 'overboard' in their coverage.

Here's how Studio B covers it.

Pretty much on a daily basis, in the opening minutes of the show, Smith covers headline news stories that will follow. Nearly everyday he says in these opening minutes 'You are looking live at Santa Maria, California, where the Michael Jackson trial is taking place' (paraphrased because he does change up words here and there).

Usually within the first 5 minutes he will give us a brief update on who's on the stand or if Michael Jackson is sick, or whatever the story is that day. At the bottom of the screen a banner announces that they will have more Michael Jackson coverage at 3:22 or thereabouts and Smith usually announces this, also.

Around 3:22 Smith goes to Laura Ingalls who is covering the trial for Fox and gets the latest information regarding the trial. After Ms. Ingalls speaks he then goes to two experts who are usually an ex prosecutor and and ex defense attorney. They discuss which way they think the trial is going, who is hurting the prosecution, who is hurting the defense.

Daily, Fox makes sure you get your full dose of Michael Jackson.

Oh, and for some who are wondering, the experts seem to think that since the mother of the accuser has been on all last week, she wasn't very credible, yet today they had an ex-security guard who is now a policeman, who gave good testimony for the defense. Overall, the concensus seems to be that the defense is ahead of the game.

Comment: I don't know how thoroughly the Michael Jackson trial is playing out on the other Fox shows, but I wanted you to know that an in depth coverage is going on at Studio B. Have fun!
