Hannity Revives Myth About Fonda and POWs

Reported by Deborah - April 20, 2005

A Vietnam Vet recently spit tobacco juice in Jane Fonda's face during a book signing so tonight Col David Hunt shared his thoughts about the incident on H&C.Throughout the segment Hunt repeated the story that POWs passed notes to Fonda during her visit and she then turned the notes over to guards claiming it's the real reason that "Fonda will rot in hell." Colmes questioned Hunt's story but Hannity allowed him to repeat it over and over despite the fact that the story was proven false years ago.

Col. David Hunt, author of They Just Don't Get It, had nothing but contempt for Fonda saying that he understood why Michael Smith spit at her repeating the story several times before Hannity started his part of the interview.

Hannity didn't bring up the story when he spoke to Hunt. Taking a higher road Hannity said that although he despises Fonda, it's wrong to throw pies or spit at celebrities adding that Fonda was generous not to press charges. Then Hannity sunk to his usual depths asking Hunt,
"If a person does this, is it the definition of a traitor?"

Then Hannity and Hunt hammered Fonda a bit more while Hunt continued to repeat the myth so it would sink deeply into the viewer's mind.

Comment:It was very simple to find the story Hunt recounted on Google. The soldiers that supposedly witnessed Fonda's behavior came forward to claim the story was fiction. In 2002, the bogus story was also repudiated by Col. Jerry Driscoll on C-Span.So why didn't Hannity at least ask Hunt about the reliability of the story source? Instead Hannity enabled the major distortion in order to do damage and stay clean at the same time.
