Hannity On Border Patrol

Reported by Deborah - April 18, 2005

Hannity was on location tonight for H&C, broadcasting from the Arizona/Mexico border.Eyes squinting in the hot sun, Hannity sat in a chic black director's chair in pressed khakis, black polo shirt and green and black tweed sportsjacket which matched the desert grasses perfectly. He spoke with James Gilchrist and Chris Simcox, co-founders of the Minuteman Project which has organized citizen border watches to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country. Later in the show, Hannity interviewed Rep. Trent Franks, R. and J.D. Hayward, R. both supporting the Minuteman Project and also criticizing Bush who called them "vigilantes"

James Gilchrist and Chris Simcox claim that they have stopped the large influx of Mexicans from crossing the Arizona/Mexico border. Hannity mentioned several times that the Mexican border could be seen in the distance behind his chair. Gilchrist and Simcox kept portraying their project as a humanitarian effort because they provide food and neccessities for Mexicans caught crossing the border.

Colmes mentioned that there were 200 more agents sent to this border before the Minuteman operation which might account for less crossings. Although 2000 new agents were requested, Bush only approved 200.

Franks and Hayward were both supportive of this project and critical of Bush and his cuts for homeland security at our borders.
Hannity prefaced his disagreement with Bush with praise for "his liberation of millions of people in the middle east.

Gilchrist told veiwers that he was launching the second stage of the Minuteman Project convincing people not to hire illegal Mexicans by protesting specific businesses not following this rule.

comment:White supremacist groups have been recruiting people for the Minuteman Project. When Colmes asked Gilchrist about this, on April 6,
he became annoyed asking Colmes why he was picking on the white supremacists.Gilchrist claims he is not a racist,

Hannity really looked foolish because there was no reason to shoot from Arizona. After the brief interviews, he was stuck in that blazing sun sweltering under a wool jacket for the hour.Guess he thinks he's Geraldo.
