Fox News "Teams Up" With Howard Stern and Martha Stewart

Reported by Melanie - April 18, 2005

Martha Stewart is a Democrat who donates to the Democratic party and promotes Democratic causes. Howard Stern isn't at all fond of George Bush and he has a less than stellar reputation, as everyone knows. Both Stewart and Stern are on Fox's hit list. Whenever the opportunity arises, Fox snipes at both of them.

Today (April 18, 2005), Sirius satellite radio announced that it has teamed up with Martha Stewart and will launch a Martha Stewart radio channel.

Howard Stern will move to Sirius radio next year.

Neil Cavuto teased the Sirius-Stewart story twice today before he actually got around to reporting the details.

His first tease was, "Howard Stern teaming up with Martha Stewart...." His second tease was, "What if I tell you Martha Stewart is paring up with none other than shock jock Howard Stern. It's true. We'll explain next."

When Cavuto actually got around to reporting the story, it began with details about the Sirius-Stewart deal, but Cavuto again brought in Stern when he said, "Sirius has already inked a deal with shock jock Howard Stern but subscribers are still an issue. Early this month XM reported 3.8 million of them. The most recent count at Sirius, about 1.2 million."

Comment: Howard Stern isn't "teaming up" with Martha Stewart, and Martha Stewart isn't "pairing up" with Howard Stern. Howard Stern needn't have been mentioned in this story. Cavuto's intent was to equate Martha Stewart with Howard Stern. If appearing on the same radio network means being "teamed up," or "pared up," then Fox itself has "teamed" and "pared" up with both Howard Stern and Martha Stewart: Fox is a Sirius radio content partner, and Fox shows air on Sirius radio.
