Walmart-Bad For America?
Reported by Deborah - April 16, 2005
Today the Forbes on Fox panel wondered if Walmart is really bad for America.Only Neil Weinberg and Mike Mariello were critical while the others praised Walmart's contribution to common folks. Their comments reflected an out of touch arrogance and lack of humanity.
Mike Mariello brought up the case where Walmart was fined only 11 million dollars for sub human treatment of illegal immigrants who were paid less than minimum wage. Neil Weinberg complained that the largest employer in the country can't even pay above the poverty levels.
The Walmart supporters jumped in claiming that the average pay was $9.85 an hour coming to about $19,000 a year acting annoyed that Weinberg would call this salary low.
Then the subject was change and Liberals became the problem instead of Walmart.Steve Forbes commented that "do good liberals" were even against super markets when they were first introduced. Then Unions were blamed for perpetuating the propaganda as well as rich suburban liberals yearning for a life that no longer existed.
comment: When the Forbes on Fox crew talk about middle class Americans, they sound like anthropologists discussing a primitive tribe living on termites in the Amazon Rainforest. To them $19,000 a year is more then enough for working class folk. Of course, they couldn't imagine it for themselves but poor people are somehow different and should be able to manage. So what if there is no health care provided for most of the workers. Can't they go to clinics or something. They should be thrilled to have a job that pays $9.85 an hour and grateful for all those affordable goods in their community.
