Fox - Self Promotion of the Worst Kind
Reported by Ellen - March 21, 2005
Last week on Studio B with Shepard Smith, he spoke with Jane Skinner in the segment they call Skinner Ville. I wasn't sure why they spent 4 days in a row speaking about American Idol (I didn't see it on Friday). I heard day in and day out about the American Idol contestant who 'quit' the show.
Then Smith said to Skinner in one segment that 'Hey, American Idol has 30 million people tuning in, if we can just get 1 percent of their audience, that would be great.' (Paraphrased)
Four straight days of endless self promotion. For those of you who don't follow American Idol (I don't), American Idol is, of course, another Fox show. Further proof that Fox goes for sensationalism in order to boost their ratings instead of giving us straight news.
Comment: Apparently Studio B wants to not only 'get' some of the
American Idol audience, they want to remind their audience to watch this Fox show. Close Encounters? Self promotion of the third kind!
