Why Did H&C Avoid Sgrena?

Reported by Deborah - March 7, 2005

The tragic story of the Italian journalist released by her Iraqi captors and fired on by American troops minutes before reaching the Baghdad airport has all the elements that H&C find compelling.Every story with similar themes have been quickly covered on H&C in the past. So why was the story conspicuously absent tonight?

Here was a perfect opportunity for Hannity to condemn an ungrateful European ally for demanding an investigation. Sgrena, a member of the left wing media elite, would have been a perfect target for Hannity's wrath. Bush was dissed by the Italians who not only negotiated with the kidnappers but also claimed that the American attack was intentional.

Normally, a story like this would go for two segments on H&C. Maybe Ollie or Geraldo would be brought in to discuss the perils of the airport road or the danger of negotiating with terrorists. Hannity would be wailing about our troops not being supported and journalists like Sgrena being Bush-Haters.Tonight would have been hate monger heaven for Hannity. So what happened?

connect: This story has been covered on other FNC shows although the coverage has been scant and biased. I believe that Hannity personally nixed this story for obvious reasons hoping that the monster will go away if it's not fed. Or maybe he's waiting until he can get the perfect character assassin to go after Sgrena. We'll have to wait and see.
