Hume's Got Some 'Splainin' To Do

Reported by Nancy - March 1, 2005 -

Last night (2/28) on Special Report, Brit Hume used the one-on-one interview segment to discuss events in the Middle East with Dennis Ross. Ross is one of Hume's favorite guests, & his insights were, as usual, both valuable & informative. The only other interesting tidbit was a new contortion of phraseology via Jim Angle to describe Bush's Social Security Scam: "personal investment accounts inside Social Security" vs "add-on accounts" -- hard to get much more convoluted than that.

Still no word of apology from Hume for his twisting & distortion of FDR's words. And now he's got another booboo on his record.

This wasn't mentioned during the "Grapevine" segment on "Special Report" on 2/28, but it appears in Hume's "Political Grapevine" column for 2/28 on the Fox website:

Clinton Controversy

New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's (search) remarks about the leading candidate for Iraqi prime minister have caused quite a stir in the region. After a trip to Iraq last week, Clinton said Ibrahim al-Jaafari's ties to Iran were "grounds both for concern and for vigilance." The comments made headlines in Iran, and Al-Jazeera (search) called Clinton a "shill for Israel" who "wants to run Iraq."

Now, al-Jaafari tells The London Times that Clinton "does not represent...the American administration," adding, "She knows nothing about the Iraqi situation." Clinton says that despite her concerns, she'll give Jaafri the benefit of the doubt, and won't "jump to conclusions."

"After a trip to Iraq last week, Clinton said Ibrahim al-Jaafari's ties to Iran were "grounds both for concern and for vigilance." The comments made headlines in Iran, and Al-Jazeera called Clinton a "shill for Israel" who "wants to run Iraq.""

In fact, the statement was made on the American-based (it's got a PO Box in Dalton, GA) Al-Jazeerah website.

Here's what al-Jazerrah says about itself:

Al-Jazeerah Information Center is an independent U.S. news and research publication. It is not related to any other identity or government in the world. In particular, it is not related to the Saudi, UAE (Dubai), or the Qatari websites with similar names. This website, Al-Jazeerah.info, is not related by any means to  Aljazeera TV station of Qatar.

Comment: Anyone want to guesstimate how long it will be before Hume admits his mistake & publishes a correction? Sorry, but I've already got dibs on "when hell freezes over", & Charles has a lock on "when Fox admits its GOP bias".

NOTE TO READERS: Please stay on topic (Hume's failure to correct mistakes & apologize for them, or Angle's contorted phraseology). O/T comments will be deleted. Please use the O/T category from the list at right to post unrelated comments. Thanks.
