Geraldo's Arrogance Extends to the US Troops, Too
Reported by Ellen - January 31, 2005
How did I get this far in my News Hound career without ever noticing how incredibly arrogant Geraldo Rivera is? Well, I know now. As I reported in previous posts, he has been extremely patronizing toward the Iraqis. Last night, during At Large with Geraldo Rivera, he displayed the same attitude toward the US Troops.
Standing before a group of US soldiers at Camp Victory in Iraq, Rivera yet again exulted that "it feels like 1776" (thereby ignoring yet again that Iraq is an ancient country with a long history thousands of years older than the US). At one point, he took his microphone to the troops in order to get their feelings about the election. One woman became tongue-tied and couldn't articulate her thoughts. Rivera, rather than interjecting a diplomatic prompt for her, reached over and pinched her cheek energetically.
I wished she had slapped him for such impudence.
And, by the way, he AGAIN played that horrible segment showing the dead Iraqi woman in the truck that both Marie Therese and I found so tasteless and disrespectful, complete with the unknown man lifting the cover from her face and the theatrical indignation from Rivera.
