Democrats Beware of Republican Identity Theft

Reported by Deborah - January 21, 2005

While Hannity and Rich Lowry were denouncing the demonstrations at the Inauguration on Hannity & Colmes tonight, a new angle emerged in their spin that could easily be part of a new Republican campaign to discredit the Democratic Party by stealing it's identity.

Shahid Buttar, spokesman for one of the groups protesting ,appeared with Rich Lowry, National Review, to debate the effectiveness of the demonstrations. Buttar stood firmly against Hannity refusing to be trapped by his usual routines. As always there were video clips of dramatic signs and an emphasis on the few disruptive acts and Hannity's effort to get Buttar to denounce his country was unsuccessful.

It was business as usual until Lowry and Hannity started a dialogue.
Lowry referred to the viscious anti war left saying that they object "whenever we try to help someone from abroad."Lowry added that the Democrats in the past were the party with the idealism of spreading goodness and liberty abroad and now that has shifted to the Republicans.
Hannity jumped in claiming that the anti war left demonstrators "got their marching orders" from Ted Kennedy, Dennis Kuncinich and Al Gore. Richard Lowry proclaimed," The left has lost it's soul." He then made a reference to the "poison of the anti war left" creating distrust in the American public.

Colmes seemed astounded by their sweeping generalizations but only had enough time to accuse Lowry of painting the left with too broad a brush stroke.

comment: So now the Republicans are creating a new image of idealists spreading love and hope through wars of necessity. The
"vicious anti war left" wants to deprive the oppressed people of the world by opposing war. The thousands of orphaned and maimed Iraqi children can now thank this country for their wonderful freedom filled lives. Anyone who opposes future wars of liberation must be labled viscious and uncaring. So trying to take our voice was not enough, now they're after our identity too.
