Amber Frey Rides Rupert Murdoch's Money Train
Reported by Melanie - January 10, 2005
It's no wonder Rupert Murdoch, the owner of Fox News and its parent company News Corp., had the money ($7 billion) to buy out shareholders of his Fox properties as was announced over the weekend. (Or, for that matter, that he could offer $44 million for a Manhattan penthouse.) In Fox News, Rupert Murdoch has an advertising machine extraordinarie to promote all of his other News Corp. products.
Regan Books is owned by News Corp. When the editors at Regan Books offered Amber Frey a book deal (Witness for the Prosecution of Scott Peterson) they didn't have to worry a whole lot about how they'd get word of the book out to the public. No, they knew they had the immense resources and reach of Fox News at their beck and call and that Fox News would provide priceless amounts of advertising. That's exactly what's happening right now. Amber Frey appeared last week on Hannity & Colmes for a two-part interview (Thursday and Friday). Tonight Frey will be a guest on Greta VanSustren's On the Record, and she's scheduled to appear tomorrow on Fox & Friends.
What a boondoggle. While Fox's guest may be relevant to current events, the audience is almost never told that they're watching a big ol' advertisement for one of Rupert Murdoch's other product lines.
