Teenage Victims of Reactionary Attitudes

Reported by Deborah - January 8, 2005

John Kasich reported on a teenage boy who struck his pregnant girlfriend, with her consent, several times in the stomach with a baseball bat to kill the fetus because they were too afraid to tell their parents about the pregnancy. The boy is facing criminal charges in Michigan and his lawyer,Miranda Massey, appeared to discuss the case along with Wendy Murphy.

The teenage couple planned this desperate method together. According to his lawyer, the girl wasn't even bruised but she would not go into the details of the case. She said that the kids had no options since they recieved abstinance not sex education and the clinics are gagged and can't talk about safe abortions.Massey claimed that kids need an intelligent social policy adding that teenagers are going to have sex unless we become a new species.

Kasich quickly changed the subject going to Murphy who believed in following the law claiming that he should be prosecuted. "Do we want children to be beaten with bats?"

comment:Miranda Massey is right. Teenagers are filled with hormones and impulse. This push to return to more puritanical behavior is just not going to work. Back steet abortions killed many women throughout time. Since we are supposed to be evolving and not ging backwards, there are other options to pursue. This reactionary behavior in homes and school will only create more tragic situations. Why can't we be honest with our kids, If you think they should abstain from sex fine but give them information about pregnancy control and safety methods to prevent STDs.
