Amy Goodman on FOX News
Reported by Ellen - January 8, 2005
I never thought I'd live to see (or in this case, hear) the day. Amy Goodman, my personal media heroine, was one of several guests on Alan Colmes' radio show, FOX News Live with Alan Colmes for two hours last night, 1/7/05.
It was a little surreal for me, hearing the two people I watch or listen to almost every day, together in the same program. Of course, everything Amy said was stellar - smart, knowledgeable and compassionate. Unfortunately, she seemed a bit reticent and I wish she had talked more, especially about Pacifica Radio (where her show started) and how she has managed, without corporate money, to turn her news program, Democracy Now! into the national news program for progressives across the country. But she was really there to sit in on the "Friday Night Free-for-All" which is, essentially, an open phone segment. Tonight's batch of calls was just about the whackiest I have ever heard on that show. For example, one man waxed enthusiastically about killing Al Qaeda and doing something unintelligible that involved drawing blood from a hog. Maybe that's why Amy was a little cautious. Or maybe she was a tad nervous that Sean Hannity might appear at any moment and start ranting with his "How can you be against torture when you supported John Kerry, a known committer of war atrocities?"
