The News Corp. Money Machine
Reported by Melanie - January 4, 2005
At approximately 4:30 p.m. ET today (January 4, 2005) during Your World w/Neil Cavuto, Fox aired this dramatically-presented promotion for Thursday's Hannity & Colmes (the italics are Amber Frey speaking during the promo):
THURSDAY! It's a Hannity and Colmes exclusive! I met Scott Peterson November 20, 2002. She was lured into a tragic web of deception, lies and betrayals that ended in two horrific murders. I was told he was married. Now, Amber Frey speaks out in her first cable interview! From their secret phone calls to their intimate affair, her new book reveals the real story behind her relationship with a convicted murder! It's Part I of Amber Frey's exclusive interview. Hannity and Colmes!
COMMENT: Viewers might think that Fox News is quite the crack operation if it booked Amber Frey ahead of all the others in her "first cable interview." What viewers likely don't know is that the publisher of Amber Frey's book (titled "Witness For the Prosecution of Scott Peterson") is ReganBooks, a holding of HarperCollins which is owned by Fox News' parent company, News Corp. The whole kitnkabootle is owned by Rupert Murdoch, which just might have something to do with why Amber Frey is giving her "first cable interview" to Fox News. Such a deal: The more Fox News promotes Amber Frey and her book, the higher their sleaze ratings go, the more book copies Amber Frey sells, and the richer Rupert Murdoch gets. It's a money machine feeding off of unsuspecting viewers who think they're watching a "fair and balanced news" channel.
