Short, Sweet and Oh What a Gem
Reported by Melanie - December 31, 2004
Whoever decides what Fox News will broadcast during its "Biz Blast" segment on Your World w/Neil Cavuto must have leapt for joy when he or she found the following piece about Martha Stewart in People magazine. It's short and sweet and it makes some of Fox News' main political points.
Substitute host, Stuart Varney, reported during the "Biz Blast" segment today (December 31, 2004):
"Martha Stewart may have been the hostess with the mostest on TV, but not in prison. People magazine is reporting that Stewart's team lost a prison decorating contest with handcrafted paper cranes. The winning team produced a Nativity scene."
COMMENT: Fox News loves to bash Martha Stewart. I surmise it's for a number of reasons. First, she's a self-made, wealthy, powerful and influential woman whose accomplishments threaten the macho men of Fox News and the radical right. Second, she's a liberal Democrat and contributes to the Democratic party. Anything Fox can do to tarnish Stewart's reputation has the added potential of tarnishing the reputation of Democrats which is never a bad thing. And third, Fox has been chanting of late that liberals are trying to "take the Christ out of Christmas." News that a Nativity scene won over that Northeastern liberal Martha Stewart's silly, secular paper cranes is sweet and delicious news indeed.
AMENDMENT: 1-2-05: Here's a link to the People magazine article. Read it and decide for youself what you think about what Fox News decided to take from it.
