Don't Forget
Reported by Melanie - December 27, 2004
Fox reporter Megyn Kendall delivered a report today (December 27, 2004) during Your World w/Neil Cavuto on the horrible tsunami in Asia. Kendall reported that the United States gave $400,000 in immediate aid today and expects to give an additional $4 million in the near future. In the end, Kendall reported, we would likely give a total of $15 million. Kendall said the UN estimates the total cost of the disaster will reach $5 billion. (COMMENT: The US might be able to give more if it weren't spending $5 BILLION PER MONTH on/in Iraq. A Failed Transition. The Mounting Cost of the Iraq War. (PDF))
At one point Stuart Varney asked: "If the UN says it costs $5 billion, is the UN, do you happen to know, is the UN planning to put any of that money in itself, as an organization?"
COMMENT: Does Stuart Varney think the UN is some sort of for-profit corporation? Where does he think the UN gets its money? The UN is funded by its member nations, and by gifts and contributions. Oh, I know, he's insinuating that the UN has lots of extra money because it gets its money through shady oil deals with Middle East dictators. That's right! I forgot.
This is intersting: "Members' Contributions to the United Nations Regular Budget".
