Ukranian Exit Polls Accurate

Reported by Deborah - December 26, 2004

At 1:22 PM today Doug Schoen reporting from the Ukraine said that the exit polls showed Viktor Yushchenko leading 56% to 41%. Schoen enthusiastically called it a landslide for Yushchenko. Brian Williams quickly warned viewers about the reliability of exit polls.

At 2:21PM Paige Hopkins reported that exit polls show that Yushchenko is winning again giving the 56% to 41% stats. Hopkins added,
"As we know here, exit polls aren't always accurate."

At 3:23 PM there was a tease about waiting for returns in the Ukraine which was followed soon after with a ticker announcement stating that Yushchenko had won 56.6% to 43%. However there was no report to follow.

Between 3:50 and 3:59PM there was another ticker announcement. This time it called the exit polls unofficial polls and again victory with the same percentages were announced.

It seems that the Ukranians have better exit polling techniques than we do. What else could possibly account for their precise accuracy?
