FOX Hypocrisy

Reported by Ellen - December 26, 2004

After all the incessant griping about "Taking Christmas Out of Christmas," I was surprised to find no less than four "Happy Holidays" wishes on FOX News Channel last night during one half hour show. There wasn't a single Jesus, Mary, Santa or even a reindeer to be seen nor a "real" Christmas carol to be heard, just a lot of "Jingle Bells."

Sean Hannity said, "From all of us here at Hannity & Colmes, Happy Holidays." Alan Colmes added, "And we wish you a wonderful New Year."

During the program, the crawl at the bottom of the screen said, "Happy Holidays to you and your family from all of us here at Fox News Channel."

During a break, Jingle Bells played while animated lights flashed, then turned into a gift box.

David Asman showed photos of himself as a child on Christmas but said, "I hope your holiday season is just as magical. From all of us at FOX News, Happy Holidays."

At the end of his program, Thomas showed a medley of performers singing Jingle Bells. At the very end, Thomas said, "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays."

No "official" FNC "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Hanukkah." Not even a chorus of White Christmas. There's really no excuse. As FOX's own Bill O'Reilly put it: The truth is that the federal holiday of Christmas should be respected in public. Its images are a threat to no one. If you are offended by a snowman or the image of a baby, you need therapy, with all due respect.

What's the matter, FOX? Don't you think all those "values voters" in your audience would appreciate a little "Adeste Fidelis" and "Hark the Herald Angels Shout?" Why not a few angel decorations on the set of Special Report and a nativity scene on The O'Reilly Factor?
Or maybe it's just that you and your viewers need therapy, with all due respect.
