Taking Sides in Cupertino
Reported by Ellen - December 8, 2004
Right now, a banner appears across the top of the FOXNews.com website that says, "Special - Take Back America." In small letters above that are easy to miss, we find out it's a Hannity & Colmes show, not really a special (except that the show takes place in Cupertino, California, in front of a live audience). If you click on the link, you get the usual prime time schedule with a Hannity & Colmes promo at the top that says, "A Californian school is erasing God (their emphasis) from one teacher's history books. Sean and Alan trek to the center of the controversy They're broadcasting LIVE from Cupertino, California where they'll speak to a teacher who's fighting back."
Sounds to me like "Fair and Balanced" FOX has decided for us what to think despite the fact that Monday night (12/6), FOX's Anita Vogel admitted that the teacher in question was NOT being prohibited from teaching history nor "erasing God" from history but was being prohibited from using handouts without clearing them in advance. He's an evangelical who, in Vogel's words, "feels religion is part of history." This could be an interesting case of Church v. State but FOX has fanned the flames of anger and partisanship in its ad without even bothering to hint that there might be another point of view.
