Another Unfair Distortion About Liberals
Reported by Deborah - December 5, 2004
Michael Guilliem is the author of Can You Be Smart And Really Believe In God. He appeared on Heartland last night not so much to plug his book but to join John Kasich's criticism of Andy Rooney's recent comment about Evangelical Christians. Unfortunatly. Rooney's opinion was also attributed to the nebulous "some people". Was he talking about Liberals?
Recently Andy Rooney commented that "Christian Fundamentalism is a result of a lack of education...." Kasich's immediate response was,
"Why do some people think that if you believe in God, you must be an idiot?"
The rest of the segment talked about all the people that think Christians are dumb and how many brilliant people believe in God.
Kasich at some point said,
"How dare they think that anyone that does believe, is stupid."
comment: Andy Rooney, a self described Athiest, never said that people who believe in God are stupid. He commented in his opinion the Christiam Fundmentalists lacked education. No matter if one agrees with the statement, it should not have been distorted by Kasich. Also, taking that distortion and claiming that it is a general opinion held by large groups of people(liberals) is totally dishonest.
This is just another example of how the media is trying to drive a wedge between the right and left, as if any help were needed. I do not know anyone who believes that if someone believes in God, they are dumb. That is a ridiculous assertion and just part of Kasich's campaign to portray Christians as victims.
