Encouraging Homophobic Paranoia

Reported by Deborah - December 4, 2004

O'Reilly had two segments on last night's show that fed viewer's fears that traditional American values are under attack by the Gay population and anyone who chooses to accept and support them.

O'Reilly has a series called Christmas Under Seige pin- pointing the conspiracy underfoot that threatens our Christian values. Last night he complained that Denver's annual Parade of Lights, discriminated against Faith Bible Chapel who wanted to have a religious float in the parade. The parade organization, privately funded, denied the application because they choose to keep the parade secular.

O'Reilly was not happy with that decision claiming that it showed clear discrimination against this Christian Church while allowing the Two Spirit Society in the parade which O'Reilly described this way.

"The Two Spirit Society honors gay indians as holy people. Holy because they're homosexual"

Actually the Two Spirit Society is a well respected national organization promoting acceptance and respect for all Native Americans in the Gay Community because all human beings are considered holy within their culture.

Next, Bonny Tish from an organization Love Makes a Family, argued that the Boys Scouts of America's policies about Gays is discriminatory and she does not believe it expresses the right message for kids. O'Reilly argued that people should just keep their sexual orientation to themselves and still be involved with the scouts. Tish was not impressed with O'Reilly's promotion of dishonesty.

Then O'Reilly asked Tish, a self described Grandmother, "How many sexual partners have you had in your life?" Tish handled the inappropriate comment with grace while O'Reilly claimed he was making a point about privacy.

comment: O'Reilly was guilty of discriminating against both Native Americans and Gays when he grossly distorted the nature of the Two Spirit Society and way off base about the Parade of Lights. Why should a private organization be compelled to allow religious floats.
They have had this rule for many years without any problems.
