Good Riddance, John Ashcroft!

Reported by Ellen - November 10, 2004 -

John Ashcroft - the conservative Christian attorney general who held prayer meetings in his office, spent more than $8,000 of taxpayer money to drape the bare breast of a statue in the Justice Department but nonetheless overruled his prosecutors in order to pursue the death penalty more aggressively, pushed through the passage of the infamous USA Patriot Act (which allows the government to snoop into your library records without notifying you), then condemned those who "scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty" as aiding terrorists - has resigned.

If you believe FOX News, and I don't, Ashcroft "has signaled for months his desire to leave, aides say. His aides say that he feels like he accomplished everything he set out to do." The New York Times, on the other hand, says, "One Republican close to the White House said on Tuesday night that Mr. Ashcroft had gotten a 'strong signal' from the administration that his resignation would be accepted."

I just wish he'd take the USA Patriot Act and that $8,000 drape over the statue with him.
