Eliot Spitzer, Fox News & Marsh & McLennan

Reported by Melanie - November 9, 2004 -

Today (November 9, 2004) on Your World w/Neil Cavuto, Brenda Buttner, substituting for Cavuto, went to a commercial break at 4:19 p.m. with a promo for an upcoming segment. Buttner said: "3,000 lose their jobs as a result of Eliot Spitzer's crackdown at Marsh & McLennan.

Just past the bottom of the hour, in the "Fox Stox" segment, when Fox reviews several stocks, Buttner elaborated (slightly). Here's what she said: "New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's crackdown on alleged fraud costing thousands of jobs at Marsh & McLennan. The insurance broker is slashing 3,000 positions after coming under fire for alleged bid-rigging."

Here's a Reuters article that talks about the lay-offs and the history of the investigation.

COMMENT: Obviously, this is a complicated story. Maybe some people at Marsh & McLennan did some very bad things, maybe they didn't. Eliot Spitzer obviously has reason to think they did. As Fox News reports it though, Eliot Spitzer, a Democrat (which is at the heart of how this information was delivered), is the cause for the 3,000 layoffs. Period. This is just one example of the 24/7/365 drip-drip-drip of the anti-Democrat/progressive message emanating out of Fox News. Imagine how it'd affect your thinking if you heard this kind of thing day after day, after month, after year.
