Kerry Ahead Among Registered Voters in FOX poll

Reported by Ellen - November 1, 2004 -

Once again, FOX does its best to downplay good news for Kerry. The headline of the article about the poll reads, "FOX Poll: Neck-and-neck to the end." The headline on FOXNews.com's home page, says, "FOX News poll shows virtual tie as candidates dash through battlegrounds." Virtual tie, maybe, but not necessarily an actual one. Just above the article is a box with photos of the candidates and the blurb, "Neck-and-Neck! Oct. 31: Presidential race dead even among likely voters with 46 percent backing Bush and Kerry." In fact, that's not quite true either because the poll numbers show that Kerry is ahead by one point with likely voters in a two-way race without Nader. Somehow FOX reporter Dana Blanton manages to omit that news from her (his?) report.

Even more laughable is this paragraph: "In mid-October, Bush held a seven-point lead over Kerry among likely voters overall. Since then, independent voters have shifted from giving an 18-point lead (sic) Bush to giving a slim five-point edge to Kerry today."

Wait a minute. In two weeks, Bush lost 22 points among independent voters and a 7-point lead among likely voters? Apparently so, but Blanton never makes that point but instead calls Kerry's edge "slim." That's funny. Because when Bush held a five point lead over Kerry, Blanton never thought it was slim. In fact, the headline of that article was 10/29/04 Poll: Bush Maintains Advantage Over Kerry. The lead paragraph said, "George W. Bush continues to hold the lead over Democrat John Kerry in the race for the presidency."

Gee, I'm getting the impression FOX doesn't want Kerry to win.
