Setting Us Up For Election Day

Reported by Deborah - October 31, 2004 -

Fox News Live stressed the complications expected on election day and after. Dari Alexander had two interviews and reports from Ohio and Florida in the span of an hour. According to Fox, we can expect chaos and complications everywhere since there is a shortage of 500,000 poll workers needed throughout the country. 10/31/04

In the first interview, Alexander mentioned that the traditional poll workers are older, retired women. "This year they are going to have to play cops, questioning voters." Alexander expressed concern that these people wouldn't be up to it. "Are we overplaying it?" The person interviewed(name missed) assured her that the fears were not overplayed but the poll workers would be very experienced.

Then we went to Ohio where all the possibilities for election day confusion were discussed and fears expressed that the decision may not be known on Tuesday.

Then a report from Orlando Salinas in Florida from a polling place in Palm Beach County where early voting is going on. Salinas showed the long lines saying that people had been waiting for hours. Viewers were shown election officials examining absentee ballot signatures. Examiners had found many questionable signatures but had no way of knowing how the people voted.
Theresa LaPore, infamous designer of the butterfly ballot, complained of unfair scrutiny from lawyers. The final words claimed that there were 9 lawsuits filed so far and all were from Democrats.

Finally John Fund arrived and told Alexander that there are some things we can do to diminish the chances of chaos and a prolonged recount. We all have to agree on the rules before hand and if someone challenges it, we must stand up and object. He cited the example of the absentee ballots from the military that were challenged until people rose up and objected and you will remember that Joe Lieberman backed down. Fund repeated the warning that poll workers will be older and overworked on Tuesday.

Comment: So we can expect chaos at the polls and only older women to keep the peace. Strange that the "older women" thing was mentioned twice. Lines will be long and lawyers will be scrutinizing voters. All that hassle and we won't even know the winner on election day because the Democrats are bringing all those lawsuits. It's starting to look like a job for the Supreme Court.
